3 safe after canoe capsized

CONEJOS COUNTY — The three people that were rescued from Platoro Reservoir July 25 were uninjured according to Cpl. Laura Amaya of the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office.

She explained that the call came into the office at 5:14 p.m. that the three had flipped out of the canoe they were using to fish.

The three men, two from Denver, and one from Maryland had been on the water about 30 minutes when the canoe flipped over.

It took about 30 minutes before it was reported that two of the parties had been rescued.  The third was still clinging to the canoe. It took another 15 minutes before it was reported that the third man had been safely rescued.

Amaya said they were checked out by EMS and released.
