4-car pile-up in Alamosa

ALAMOSA — Four cars were involved in a crash Wednesday morning on U.S. Highway 160 at Washington Avenue. According to the Alamosa Police Department, Juan Tomas, 24 of Alamosa, was westbound in a Chevy Camaro when he and tried to turn onto Washington to access Stockton Road. However, he hit a GMC SUV driven by Bruce Appelbaum, 71 of Durango. The SUV didn’t stop until it hit head-on with an eastbound Chevy pickup driven by Veja Pettigrew, 19 of Fort Garland. The fourth vehicle, a Pontiac sedan driven by Holly Ford, 18 of Alamosa, could not stop in time and rear-ended the pickup.
