5K Tater Trot raises funds for pediatric diabetes

MONTE VISTA — The Colorado Potato Administrative Committee (CPAC) is excited to announce that the 2019 5K Tater Trot, in conjunction with Potato Festival helped to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes, as well as generate $3,500 for the Pediatric Diabetes Fund. Proceeds were raised through potato sale donations, race entries and community sponsorships. The Pediatric Diabetes Fund is distributed to the “Frontline: Diabetes” project that offers residents a novel, integrated approach to the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Participants learn about current standards of diabetes care, nutritional counseling, educational needs, and relevant referral resources from a multidisciplinary team of family physicians, endocrinologists, dieticians and certified diabetic educators. The funds generated from the Tater Trot 5K, provide nurses with gift cards to give to diabetes patient’s families. If you or someone you know suffers from juvenile Type 1 Diabetes, speak with your primary care provider about possibly obtaining financial support.

This year the 5K Tater Trot was organized in collaboration with the CPAC, The City of Monte Vista Recreation Department, Farm Fresh Direct, LLC and San Luis Valley Health. The team would like to thank all participants and the following sponsors for helping make the event such a success: Volm Companies Inc., Sunflower Bank, Walmart, ITC and R.E. Garrison Freight Management.
