A Snapshot of Voting Patterns

It can often be difficult to distinguish the position that a lawmaker has taken. However, a simple look at voting records can provide some degree of insight. The following is a brief summarization of the voting records of some of Colorado’s State and Federal lawmakers according to www.votesmart.org.

Sen. Cory Gardner (R)- The Senator has shown a very consistent record of support for nominees put forward by President Trump. He supported the nominations of Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. He was also a consistently staunch opponent of numerous measures put forth by the Obama Administration. He was a co-sponsor both S-47, The Natural Resources Management Act and S-1, Strengthening Americas’ Security in the Middle East Act of 2019.

Senator Michael Bennet (D)- The senator opposed both Supreme Court nominations and has voted nay on virtually all of the nominations from the Trump Administration. He did not vote on S-1790 or HR-3401, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act. He has been a proponent of wage equality and was a co-sponsor of S-2233, The Minimum Wage Fairness Act.

Rep. Scott Tipton (R)- The Congressman has been a consistent supporter of the Second Amendment. He voted against Joint Resolution 46, which opposed the president's declaration of a national emergency at the border.

Sen. Larry Crowder (R)- The Senator voted against SB 19-042, which authorized the Interstate Agreement to Elect the president by popular vote. He was a co-sponsor of SB 18-272, which Establishes School grants for Suicide Prevention Training.

Rep. Donald Valdez (D) - The representative voted against his party on HB 19-1177, the “Red Flag Gun Bill” and HB 19-042. He was another co-sponsor of SB 18-272.

While this summary is by no means comprehensive, all of the lawmakers listed above have demonstrated some degree of consistency in their voting
