A Trail of Thoughts: Do your part

I have been given many different instructions over the years. The advice I have received has come in many different forms from many different individuals. Some of these instructions were quite clear, other times I hadn’t the faintest idea what I was supposed to do.

There is one thing that I have heard and continue to hear.... “Do your part.” This was something I was first told years ago by my parents. In all honesty, it is something that I am still working on.

What it really means is “do what you can do; and do your best.” Sometimes, I have found this to be easier said than done. That being said, I have also found the concept to be rather sound advice.

I strive every day to do what I know I can do. I have also had to come to grips with the fact that there are many things that are beyond my control. But the good news is that at least I know there are things I can do such as staying true to my faith and being there for family and friends. While the outcome of a situation may not always be what I had hoped for, at least I can know that I did what I could.

When I do get overwhelmed at times, I try to remember to take things “one day at a time.” I will continue to do what I know I can do. When I do my part, I can remain confident that things will fall into place.
