A Trail of Thoughts: It’s almost Derby Time!

I think it is past time to take things to a lighter note!

With that said, I am very excited about the fact that my parents and I will have the opportunity to attend the 2019 Kentucky Derby!

I have had a fondness for horses and horseracing since I can remember so this trip really will be a dream come true. As a horseracing enthusiast, I also enjoy the history of the sport.

The Kentucky Derby will be run for the 145th consecutive year in 2019. Colonel M. Lewis Clark founded the race in 1875. He wanted to start an event that would attract a “more elegant crowd,” much like the races that were seen in Europe at the time.

What began as an idea has since become one of the most legendary horse races in the world. It is also a celebration of sorts that has inspired many rich traditions.

Those traditions include the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs, the Mint Julep, the Garland of Roses, and the singing of “My Old Kentucky Home.”

Furthermore, one can’t help but notice the incredible fashion display that the event is. Many notable personalities have also attended the Kentucky Derby including several U.S. Presidents and Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Quite simply, it is the height of Southern U.S. culture.

Needless to say I am beside myself to have the chance to attend something of this magnitude!

There are countless other stories that have come from the Kentucky Derby and the world of horse racing, but there is most certainly not room for them here.

It will be an adventure that I look forward to with great anticipation. There will be more to come on this subject.
