Adams State Chamber Choir will perform with the Winds and Percussion Ensemble April 11

ALAMOSA – The Adams State University Chamber Choir and Winds and Percussion Ensemble will be performing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in Richardson Auditorium. The Chamber Choir program, titled “An Immigrant’s Stories: Hopes, Dreams and Fears in Uncertain Times,” is part of the Music Department’s ETHOS: Exploring Equity through Music project, and was performed at the Colorado Music Educators Association conference in January.

Works will include the “Gloria” from Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez, with Dr. Matthew Valverde and Skye Montoya, tenors, as well as Hispanic folk songs, African American spirituals, early American hymns and a commissioned work, “Border Lines,” by Mari Esabel Valverde.  The concert celebrates the heritage of immigrants, recognizing the hardships many face and the national and global impact of nativistic attitudes. The choir will be joined by Tyleen Stults on piano, Marc Eaton on guitar, and percussion.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth, the ASU Winds and Percussion will perform an arrangement of Three Dance Episodes. This famous work is extracted from the musical On the Town. ASU Winds and Percussion will be joined by soloists, Leslie Kahler, alum of Adams State, on e-flat clarinet and Jason Paschell, new band director of Monte Vista High School, on oboe and English horn.

The concert is $5 for adults, $1 for students, and free to AS&F and Friends of Music.  For more information, please call (719) 587-7621.
