New dean is long-time Alamosa educator

ALAMOSA — Michelle Wilson is the new Dean of Students for Alamosa Elementary School grades 3-5.

Wilson is an Alamosa native and is currently in her 19th year in education. She has taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades and has spent her entire career with the Alamosa School District.

She holds two masters degrees from Adams State in Education with a minor in English. She began as a business major but soon realized that education was really where she was supposed to be.

Wilson has two daughters that attend Alamosa High School. One is freshman and one is a junior. Her husband works in Solar Energy.

She is excited for this new opportunity and hopes to be support for the teachers and students at Alamosa Elementary. “My heart is with Alamosa,” she said. The Valley is home for Wilson and she is committed to the students.

Principal post 'natural step' for Wheeler

ALAMOSA — Keith Wheeler is the new principal for Alamosa Elementary School.

He comes to the Valley after spending 11 years in administration at a middle school in Holbrook, Arizona.

Originally from a small town on the Oregon coast, he appreciates the value of rural communities. When the opportunity to come to Alamosa presented itself, it seemed like a “natural step,” in his career. Wheeler also appreciates the mountains and the variety of seasons that the Valley offers.

He anticipates that moving from middle school to elementary school administration will be an adjustment, but it is one he is prepared for. He hopes to “build culture,” and continue to uphold high standards at Alamosa Elementary.
