Alamosa 18u baseball tournament begins today

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa baseball program will host its annual 18u tournament beginning today at the Ortega Middle School north field.

This year there are five teams in the tournament – Alamosa, Bayfield, Cortez, Monte Vista and Taos (N.M.).

There are five pool-play games scheduled for today. The tournament opens with Alamosa hosting Monte Vista at 9 a.m., followed by Alamosa hosting Taos at 11 a.m. Monte Vista will then play Bayfield at 1 p.m., followed by Cortez facing Taos at 3 p.m. The final game of the day will feature Bayfield against Cortez at 5 p.m.

Pool play games will have a time limit of one hour and 45 minutes. An inning will be finished, but not started after the 1:45 limit has been reached.

The tournament concludes on Saturday. The third-place game will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the championship at 12:30 p.m.

Saturday’s games will have a two-hour time limit under the same rules as Friday.

Run rules will be 12 runs after three innings, 10 after four and eight after five.

Teams will get to do an in-and-out before their first game of each day only. The tournament will follow regular high school pitching rules.
