Alamosa boys, Centauri girls win McGinn cross country meet

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School boys cross country team won the McGinn Cross Country Challenge last Saturday at Pagosa Springs.

Leading the Mean Moose was William Wilson who finished seventh in 21:19.81. Dylan Crowther was ninth in 21:42.64, Mason Gonzales was 11th in 21:55.40, Izaiah Casanova was 13th in 22:00.92, Giovanni Fricke was 15th in 22:34.59, Brock Benton was 16th in 22:35.67, Cody Williams was 24th in 23:54.21, and Kingston Wilcox was 35th in 26:58.98.

Alamosa scored 39 points, followed by Centauri with 43, Pagosa Springs with 59, and Bayfield with 85.

Mason Sowards led the Falcons with a second-place finish in 20:00.62. Carson Bagwell was fifth in 20:27.66, Tyrel Hostetter was 10th in 21:43.94, Troy Sowards was 17th in 22:44.22, Estevan Vega was 25th in 23:54.72, Kaleb Anderson was 28th in 25:20.50, Liam Sowards was 36th in 27:11.40, and Mason Finehout was 39th in 27:52.50.

Other SLV boys running in the race were Del Norte’s Riley Orr who was fourth in 20:20.22, Corbin Horrocks who was 29th in 25:31.77, and Jose Pinon who was 33rd in 26:30.97. Sargent’s Westen Burkhart was third in 20:18.33, and Josiah Yocom was sixth in 21:09.37, and Monte Vista’s Memphis Garcia was 14th in 22:13.65, and Nehemiah Espinosa was 40th in 36:58.02.

In the girls race, Centauri was the champion with 24 points, and Pagosa Springs was second with 32.

For the Lady Falcons, Tayte Hostetter was the individual champion in 24:17.36. Kaia Skadberg was fourth in 25:48.33, McKenzie Torres was fifth in 26:03.02, McKenna Guymon was seventh in 26:52.83, and Eliza Sowards was 16th in 30:57.12.

Monte Vista had one runner in Kiera Sanchez who finished 18th in 33:13.21.

Most of the local teams will compete at the Zaragoza Invitational at Alamosa High School on Saturday. The first race is at 9 a.m. beginning at the AHS stadium.
