ALAMOSA — City league softball is hitting its peak. Lee Fields are about to heat up as the various city teams battle for supremacy. The bracket for Co-Ed competitive is set. Action begins today at 6:30 p.m. with the play-in games on field 1 and 2.

The highest of the wildcards, The Elks Team, will take on No. 10 Werner Realty/ VJ’s Embroidery on field 1 for the opportunity to move on and face Straight Outta Softball (13-3) on field one at 8:30 p.m. The Elks (7-9) holds the head-to-head against Werner Realty/ VJ’s (1-15) via a 22-5 victory on June 5th. But looking forward, neither team was able to get past Straight Outta Softball during the regular season falling by a combined score of 58-16 in three games.

On field 2 will be a matchup of the 8 and 9 seeds. Team Platinum (3-13) holds the higher seed over their opponent Chaos 2-14) thanks to earning an extra win in the regular season. In the head to head things are pretty even. Both teams have taken a win in the series and both games were decided by a one run margin. The final meeting between the two decides who moves on to face tournament favorite WOLO (14-2) on field two at 8:30 p.m.

The play-ins then lay the path for tournament play from seeds 3 through 6. The high seed Snappers will take over field one at 8:30 p.m. facing sixth seed Anytime Fitness. The Snappers (12-4) took a 1-0 series lead over Anytime Fitness (8-8) with an 8-3 victory on June 10th. Also at 8:30 p.m., No. 4, 5-O’s/Arlan’s Pro Services and 5, Gosar Sausage will battle on field to advance to the championship bracket quarterfinals. Since the two teams sported an identical record (10-6), and the head-to-head was even (1-1) the tie breaker between them came down to strength of victory. 5-O’s margin was 13 points over Gosar while Gosar’s was a 2-point win against 5-O’s. Thus giving 5-O’s the higher seed.

The quarterfinal round/ One-Loss Bracket will begin on July 15th with the Semifinals and the second round of the One-Loss continuing next Wednesday on the 17th followed by the culmination of the One-Loss bracket on the 22nd and finally the Championship and if needed the ‘First Loss’ rematch on July 24th.

Both the Men and Women’s leagues are beginning planning for the post season as well. Both leagues wrapped their regular season on Tuesday night.  The playoffs for both leagues are slated to immediately follow regular season play. According to Alamosa Parks and Recreation tentative dates for post-season play kick off with men first on Thursday the 11th then both leagues continuing on the 16th, 18th, 23th and 30th of July. Rain or Shine / REC holds the number one spot in the Men’s league entering post season play while for the women it’s team Lady WOLO.

Bringing up the rear is Co-Ed Leisure. After Wednesday’s slate of action the Leisure league still has two more weeks of regular season play to work through. As it stands LP is staving off Adcock Automotive and Livingstone Trucking for first place by a one-win margin.
