ALAMOSA — Tuesday afternoon the Mean Moose faced off with another league rival in Pagosa Springs. Alamosa (10-1-0) finalized their sweep of a league of a second league opponent with a 1-0 victory over the Pirates (5-6-0) .

Entering Tuesday’s contest the Moose have been at full gait with the wind at their back. And now Alamosa owns a perfect home record (5-0), a perfect league record (5-0), and have taken their wins by a combined margin of 35-3. For the continued success the attackers can take their share of the credit but the defense cannot be overlooked.

The victory over Pagosa Springs makes the seventh win that Alamosa has earned by a shut-out. As a matter of fact in Alamosa’s wins they allow an average of 0.3 goals per game. And on the pitch Tuesday when the offense got off to a slow start and was being out-shot in the first half it was the defense that stepped up.

Alamosa’s backfield lessened keeper Ashley Ramirez’s workload by only allowing one shot on target. The Moose were efficient on the other end as well when Alamosa sophomore Devyn Mitchell’s first shot on goal scored with eight minutes remaining in the half.

The vigilant play would continue into the second half for Alamosa as the backfield absolutely smothered any offensive production from Pagosa Springs. The Pirates went from 6 shots with one on target in the first half to just one shot in the second half, unofficially.
Keeping Rodriguez clean all game long paid dividends as Mitchell’s goal from the first half remained the difference maker.

Alamosa will finalize their league schedule with a home game against Montezuma-Cortez on Friday at 4 p.m. The schedule for the footballers is slightly backloaded however as on back to back days Alamosa will be traveling on May 5 and 6 to Telluride and Ridgeway for two games against top ten talent in Colorado 2A soccer. Telluride and Ridgeway are ranked 7 and 9 according to CHSAAnow RPI scores.
