Alamosa County Commissioners to discuss bank building donation

Renovations to Alamosa bank building to cost $1 million

ALAMOSA — On Wednesday, the Alamosa County Board of County Commissioners will hold a regular meeting at 8:30 a.m.

On the agenda is an item to consider the contract between the county and Alamosa State Bank regarding the donation of the bank building located at 601 Main St. in Alamosa to the county. As previously reported in the Valley Courier, the building will be used for the offices of the District Attorney. According to the contract that will be discussed at the commissioners meeting, the value of the donation is $1.3 million.

The Commissioners will also converse about an item regarding the building between Spencer Architecture and the county for "Additions & Alterations to the Existing Alamosa State [Bank] Building located at 601 Main Street, Alamosa, Co." "The initial budget for The Cost of The Work, as provided by Alamosa County is estimated at $1,000,000."

A Special Initiative Funding grant application filed by the county with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs for the renovation for $823,000 will also be discussed.

According to County Administrator, Roni Wisdom, the donation of the old bank building to the county will be finalized on Dec. 29.

The real property being donated by Alamosa State Bank is Lots 9, 10, 11 in Block 39, City of Alamosa; The South 50 feet of Lots 12,13,14,15, and 16, in Block 39, City of Alamosa, and Lots 17,18,19, in Block 39, City of Alamosa.

There will also be a presentation at the meeting from Alamosa County Health that will cover a variety of health issues including a brief update on COVID that will include, "Community level jumped up to Medium in mid-October, then went back to Low. Have had higher numbers of reported cases the week of 11/13 and 11/20."

The commissioners will also discuss a letter to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission in support of Xcel Energy's Colorado Clean Energy Plan 120-Day Report and Xcel Energy's Preferred Plan. The plan includes 22 projects and would double the amount of renewable energy and include an investment by the utility of $14-$15 billion. According to the letter, "With the retirement of Xcel Energy's existing Alamosa Combustion turbine in 2025, Xcel Energy is proposing a new 28 MW combustion turbine to ensure reliable electric service in the San Luis Valley by backing up existing energy generation in the area. Furthermore, investments in transmission infrastructure will enhance reliability in the San Luis Valley and throughout the state."
