Alamosa Fire answers the call

With the red lights of fire trucks reflecting off the front of the home, Alamosa firefighters Ben Herrera and Captain Devin Haynie prepare to enter the smoke-filled house about 15 miles southwest of here early Tuesday morning. The fire at 14032 Road 102S was reported about 5:15 a.m. Fire Chief Don Chapman said the fire was mostly confined to the living room but the entire home suffered heat and smoke damage but is repairable. He said items left on top of a propane heater was the suspected cause. The home is owned by Pat Mascarenas and was occupied by Susan Charron. Alamosa Fire responded with four trucks and 14 firefighters while Carmel Volunteer Fire sent eight firefighters with four trucks. Firefighters were on scene for about two hours, Chapman said. No injuries were reported.
