ALAMOSA — Thursday morning girls from Salida, Swink, Monte Vista and all over Pueblo made the trip to Cattails Golf Course to take on the host Mean Moose. Alamosa was on target at their home course with a first place finish culminating a team score of 281. Monte Vista wasn’t far behind their neighbor collecting a second overall finish totaling 308 strokes.
Alamosa’s last outing was a snowy excursion at the Monte Vista Golf Club that resulted in a second place finish after hitting 299 as a team. Monte Vista was at Florence earlier this week, where they finished seventh in the team rankings.

On Thursday Morning Alamosa had a full team effort. Headlined by seniors Alana Hackett and Lexi Ortega Alamosa had five girls place in the top ten. Ortega and Hackett placed third and fourth tying with 92 strokes. Behind them teammate Graycie Easton took fifth hitting 96 strokes ahead of fellow Moose Rhiley Hacsi. And finally Torince Hensley held the ninth overall spot hitting 105 strokes.

Monte Vista also flexed some muscle on the local course. Gracie Burkhart claimed the top spot for the Pirates. Burkhart left with two second-place medals at the end of the day, one for her individual performance registering 89 strokes, the other for her team’s performance. Elsewhere for the Pirates Erika Medina and Natalia Cendajas finished in kind, placing 14 and 15 respectively.

Alamosa will open their May schedule with a trip to Pueblo South to face the 12th Iwanamaker ranked Colts on May 2. Then both Alamosa and Monte Vista will close their regular season schedules in Rye on May 4 as they make their final preparations for Regionals at HollyDot Course in Colorado City.
