Alamosa proclaims art festival weekend

The Alamosa city council on Wednesday night proclaimed Alamosa Art Festival Weekend September 7-8. Center front, Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman presents the proclamation to artist Huberto Maestas, who is a member of the local art committee along with Jolene Webb and Joyce Wiley, front right. Flanking them from left are City Councilors David Broyles, Charles Griego, Liz Hensley, Michael Carson, Jan Vigil and Alamosa City Manager Heather Brooks. The proclamation acknowledges the new artwork that will be unveiled during the art festival this weekend along with other art-related activities. Alamosa’s art program was a suggestion by Maestas that was followed up by Councilman Charles Griego and Brooks. Some of the art pieces from the first year will remain in Alamosa, and it is the city’s goal to expand public art throughout the city. Maestas commended the city for instituting the public art program. “At the end of the day we have all this beautiful art in Alamosa,” he said. Griego said he was glad to see the art program and festival grow. “This is something that I think will bring a lot of people to our community,” he said.
