Alamosa restaurant remains a James Beard semifinalist

ALAMOSA — In late January, the James Beard Foundation named its semifinalists in a variety of cuisine-related categories. Included in the Best New Restaurant category is Friar's Fork in Alamosa. On March 29, the foundation named the finalists, and the Italian-themed local restaurant did not make the cut.

Friar’s Fork is the creation of San Luis Valley native Denise Vigil who with her business partner and husband Nealson Vialpando opened the restaurant, located in the former St. Thomas Episcopal Church last year.

Vigil, a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, brings her decades of restaurant experience, including Coyote Café in Santa Fe, Little Nell in Aspen, and Trinchera Ranch in Costilla County to the table.

At the time the James Beard Foundation nomination was announced, Vigil said it was, “Wild, shocking, hugely humbling… I feel like I have the best team in the Valley, they’re amazing and this is to their credit.”

Friar's Fork is located at 607 Fourth St. in Alamosa. For more information, call 719-206-3331, or visit online www.friarsfork.com.
