Alamosa senior center hosts Medicare consultation

ALAMOSA — Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period is here! Now’s the time to think about Medicare coverage options for 2019. Consider which benefits matter to you based on your needs, and find the Medicare plan that’s your best fit. Why? Well, plans change, and your health care needs might have changed, too. Kasey Hill, SHIP Rep, has open appointments at the Alamosa Senior Citizens Center for Medicare Open Enrollment consultation available on Tuesday, October 23rd from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Thursday, October 25th from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Call to set up your time! Learn to live FREELY with diabetes class is scheduled to take place from Thursday, Oct. 18th – Thursday Nov. 29th from 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. There will be no class on Nov 22nd. Do you have prediabetes or diabetes? These free self-management workshops can help you make small changes that lead to big rewards. Classes are interactive and led by trained facilitators. Topics include: balancing blood sugar, meal guidelines and planning, safe exercising ideas, reading food labels, dealing with depression and stress and many other self-management tips! The Annual Membership Meeting takes place October 23rd @ 1 p.m. (no bingo that day!) There are three board positions open and three positions on the membership committee open. Ballots are available at the center for nominations. Nominations will also be taken from the floor. Feel free to call with any questions! On Friday, October 26th we are hosting a dance from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Cost is $2 per person. Following the dance @ 5 p.m. will be our Annual Harvest Potato Potluck! Potatoes are furnished and we are asking for folks to bring toppings, side dishes or desserts. We’ll be celebrating fall birthdays as well! The following weekly activities are for all seniors whether you are a member or not. Please come and join us! * Billiards Play. * Coffee social hour @ 8:30 a.m. * Puzzle construction. * M, W & F Strong Bones @ 9:30 a.m. * Tuesdays @ 10 am, line dancing with Karen Stills. * Dime Bingo, M-Th from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Free to members. $2 fee for non-members. * Tai Chi with Lyn Johnson Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m and Wednesday evenings @ 5:30 p.m. * Free 5 point ear acupuncture conducted by Rick Wertz each Tuesday @ 9:30 a.m. for veterans and seniors 50 & over. Those who participate note less stress & anxiety, & better sleep. * Sewing Group (includes Knitting, Crocheting, Quilting and anything you want to work on) meets each Wednesday @ 10:30 a.m. and the Mah Jongg group @ 1pm. * Rock Painting Class each Thursday @ 10 a.m.! (These folks are having a blast!) * Linda Falkenthal is here each Friday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to help with your computer, smart phone or tablet needs. Call to sign up for a session. * No Chair Yoga for the month of October! * Dominoes - Fridays @ 12:30 p.m. * Daily transportation is available for seniors 60 and over within Alamosa City limits between 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Please call ahead at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride for errands, Dr. visits, grocery shopping, dining and participating in events at the Center, etc. * If you are not yet a member, please consider joining us!
