Alamosa Senior Center offers fun activities

ALAMOSA — As we close out February and welcome in March, the Alamosa Senior Citizens have plenty to offer! A big thank you to Trinidad State Jr. College school of Massage Therapy for coming down and treating us to outstanding chair massages!

Thanks Julie Kotalik (Instructor) and your three great students!! One member told me that of all of the things I’ve tried to implement here, this was by far the best!...  They offered to come back in March, so watch for dates and times!

The following activities are scheduled to take place in March (If these don’t appeal. Come and join us on Wed. mornings at 8 a.m. for coffee!):

  • Dime Bingo, M-Th from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Free to members and $2 for non-members.
  • Line Dancing taught by Karen Stills takes place each Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. (9:30 for beginners or if you want a refresher course on the steps!)
  • Strong Bones Exercise Class - M, W & F from 9-9:45 a.m. This program is geared specifically for women to help keep osteoporosis at bay and improve circulation.
  • Bridge - Wednesdays @ 1:30 p.m.
  • Dominoes - Fridays @ 12:30 p.m.
  • Chair Yoga - Fridays @ 10 a.m.

Each Wednesday beginning @ 10:30 a.m. Rick Wertz of Sunshine Acupuncture, will hold a Free 5 point ear acupuncture clinic for those 50 and over. This type of treatment has proven to be powerful in alleviating stress, sleep problems, and anxiety as well as promoting mental clarity, memory and energy.

  • Monday March 13th & 27th @ 1:30 p.m. Rick Wertz of Sunshine Acupuncture, will hold a Free 5 point ear acupuncture clinic for veterans. This type of treatment has proven to be powerful in alleviating stress, sleep problems, and anxiety as well as promoting mental clarity, memory and energy.
  • Fridays @ 1 p.m., Linda Falkenthal offers her talents free of charge to teach seniors about the use of computers step by step. This includes the safe use of social media and ecommerce. Join us for this free drop in class! She will also be available each Friday from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. for individual sessions. Please call the center (719-589-3277) to schedule if you are interested. The next individual appointment time available is 3/10/17.
  • Monday, March 6th the first “Stepping On” class will begin at 10:30 a.m. This class is geared toward helping older adults train in fall prevention. Julie Ramstetter will be our instructor.
  • Tuesday March 7th @ 10 a.m. the National Federation of the Blind will hold a support group meeting. Come and join us if you are a person with low vision, no vision or a care giver. We will explore new technologies and share information regarding free programs. Coffee and donuts provided!
  • Wednesday, March 8th the seniors will head out to Buffalo Thunder Casino! The cost is $25 and we leave the Center at 8 a.m.! Seating is limited so call soon to make your reservation.
  • Thursday, March 9th the seniors will depart from the Center at 9:30 a.m. and journey to Milagros Coffeehouse where we will enjoy a muffin and coffee. From there we will stop at the San Luis Valley Museum for a tour. Cost for the excursion is $5 all inclusive! Call the center to reserve your spot!
  • We provide free transportation (donations are always welcome!) M-F between 8:30 a.m. & 1 p.m. for seniors at least 60 years of age. Please phone in your reservations to the center office at least 24 hours in advance. For your convenience, you may schedule several trips at a time.
  • The Alamosa Senior Pool players are replacing several pieces of equipment in the pool room. 2 tables, 2 sets of balls and 5 cues. If you would like to make a donation (equipment or monetary) please call the Center. To those who have already made generous donations, thank you!

It’s never too early to get your name on the list for the Branson Holiday Extravaganza the seniors have lined up! We will depart the Center on November 11th and return on the 19th. Call for more details!
