Alamosa Seniors: Alamosa seniors plan October trip

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Senior Citizens have a new trip in the future! We will join with Diamond Tours for a journey to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam October 5th – 12th. Here are a few events to keep in mind for the future!

* March 4th, the Pueblo Better Business Bureau will present our first Senior Savvy Workshop from 9:30-11:30. Knowledge is the best defense against scammers! This workshop will help us to spot and avoid scams and utilize Better Business Bureau resources available to victims of scams. Sergeant William Squires and Corporal Ivan Garcia of the Alamosa Police Department will be on hand to discuss scams involving seniors. Please call the center to register! 719-589-3277.

* March 8th the seniors will travel to Taos. Call soon to make your reservation!

* March 8th the Alamosa Senior Citizens will host a St. Paddy’s Day Dance! (Bernal and Alex will provide music!)

* March 20th we have a trip scheduled to the new Tesuque Casino in NM. Call to reserve your spot!

* April 5th, the SLV Area Health Education Center will hold a workshop on Opioid Response beginning at 11 a.m.

* May 11th an AARP Smart Driver Course will be offered from 1–5 p.m. Taking this course may help you to save money on your car insurance! Drive Smart – Save Smart. Refresh your driving skills and know the new rules of the road! There are NO tests to pass. Please call to register as class size is limited. Classroom Course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

The following weekly activities are for all seniors whether you are a member or not. Please come and join us! All classes are free unless otherwise noted. If you have suggestions for a new class or group, please let us know!

* Billiards Play.

* Coffee social hour @ 8:30 a.m.

* Puzzle construction.

* M, W & F Strong Bones @ 9:30 a.m.

* Tuesdays @ 10 a.m., line dancing with Karen Stills.

* Dime Bingo, M-Th from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Free to members. $2 fee for non-members.

* Tai Chi with Lyn Johnson Wednesday mornings at 8:30 am and Sunday evenings @ 5:30 p.m.

* Free 5 point ear acupuncture conducted by Rick Wertz each Tuesday @ 9:30 a.m. for veterans and seniors 50 & over. Those who participate note less stress & anxiety, & better sleep.

* Sewing Group (includes Knitting, Crocheting, Quilting and anything you want to work on) meets each Wednesday @ 10:30 am and the Mah Jongg group @ 1 p.m.

* Rock Painting Group meets each Thursday @ 10 a.m.! You may join in at any time!

* Chair Yoga will be discontinued until further notice.

* Dominoes - Fridays @ 12:30 p.m.

* Daily transportation is available for seniors 60 and over within Alamosa City limits between 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Please call ahead at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride for errands, Dr. visits, grocery shopping, dining and participating in events at the Center, etc. ***Due to high demand, transportation will be limited to one location per person per day.

* If you are not yet a member, please consider joining us! Regular annual membership is $30 per person or for an Ambassador membership $100 per person. We are located at 92 Colorado in Alamosa adjacent to Cole Park. Hours of operation are: M-Th 8 a.m.-3 p.m. & Fridays 8 a.m.-2 p.m. 719-589-3277.
