Alamosa Seniors: Continue to stay active with Alamosa seniors

What a fun time we had celebrating our dads last Friday! The food was delicious and thanks to those who brought special dishes to share, there was plenty to go around! A big thanks to all who joined us, and our volunteers; Jeff Otey, Julina Garcia, Judy Wiescamp, Becky Bender and Nadine Gurule! I don’t know what we would do without you!

Our Facebook page is updated daily, so be sure to check us out to see what’s going on! https://www.facebook.com/groups/AlamosaSeniorsCenter/

The Strong Bones exercise program, conducted by Mary Ellen Flemming, is moving right along! Join us Mondays Wednesdays & Fridays at 9:30 a.m. for the next nine weeks. This free program is designed for middle-aged and older men and women using hand and ankle weights to increase strength and bone density as well as improve balance and flexibility. You are more than welcome to come at any time! This program will be an ongoing fixture at the center.

On Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m., join instructor Lynn Johnson for Tai Chi. Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the best of health.

Drop by this Wed, June 20th at 3 p.m. for a group discussion with Jim Cone. Jim is combat veteran, retired from the Naval Reserves. He has been counseling those suffering from psychological trauma for about 30 years. This free self-help discussion class is for veterans, first responders, and anyone who believes they have suffered an emotional trauma in their lives or cares for someone who has.

Come and explore the world of dreams each Monday at 9:30 a.m. Roy Kiefer will moderate the group using the Jungian school of thought.

Wednesday, June 20th at 10 a.m. Mary Dereng will conduct a free craft workshop. Come join us and be creative!

This Thursday, June 21st at 11 a.m., Sarah Duncan-Pearson will present a workshop on Public Health Options for Long-term Care. This informative presentation will answer questions regarding how the program works and who it benefits.
