Alamosa Seniors: Join seniors for classes, excursions

ALAMOSA — I just read a neat quote by Lao Tzu and since February is the month of love thought it would be a good one to share. “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” Our family has been blessed with extra love as we welcomed Jack Michael, grandchild #4, into the world on Jan. 23rd and celebrated Bryanna Rae’s (grandchild #1) 16th birthday last week. Grandchildren are such a special gift! How thankful we are for them and the joy they bring into our lives.

Are you interested in what it takes to obtain a concealed carry permit? Join Daniel Workman for a Concealed Carry & Training class presented on Friday, February 16th @ 5 p.m. & Saturday, February 17th @ 10 a.m. The class is free for members of the Alamosa Senior Citizens, $20 for anyone over the age 50 and $60 for all others. Friday’s class will be indoors at the senior center and focus on safety and concealed carry, Saturday will be shooting and training. To sign up, please call the Alamosa Senior Citizens @ 719-589-3277 or email [email protected]

The next casino excursion takes place on Tuesday, February 20th to Camel Rock. Call now to reserve your spot!

Our Monthly Museum Excursion takes us to the Rio Grande County Museum located in Del Norte, on Friday, February 23rd. We plan to leave at 9 a.m. and arrive for a tour of the museum @ 10. The museum offers visitors a look into the cultural history of the area from the Native Americans, to the mountain men fur trappers, to the Mexican land grants and the settlers from New Mexico, to the gold seekers, the farmers, ranchers and merchants who came for land, freedom and a better way of life. Following the museum tour, we will stop for lunch at the historic Windsor Hotel. One of Colorado’s oldest hotels, the Windsor occupies nearly one half of a city block in the heart of Del Norte. Its construction started soon after the town was founded in 1871 and the food is incredible! Please call the Center to place your reservation and for pricing information.

The Alamosa Senior Citizens are excited to offer a trip to the stunning area of Mackinac Island, Michigan. The trip runs from June 21st - 27th.  Cost is $1949 per person for a double and $2449 for a single. A $500.00 deposit is required by March 15th. It’s been said that there are few jewels in the world like Mackinac (pronounced Mackinaw) Island. It’s a place where time stands still, tranquility fills the air and it seems as though you have left the worries of the real world behind. Please call for more detailed information!
