Alamosa Seniors: Plan an adventure with senior center

Hope the New Year is off to a wonderful start for everyone! Here at the Alamosa Senior Citizens, activities are in full swing. Hopefully, there will be something you find of interest and will come and join us!

Our next great adventure will be to beautiful Mackinac Island in Michigan June 21st - 27th in conjunction with Falcon Tours. Mackinac Island is truly the “all natural” theme park of America. Limited to transportation of horse and buggy, bicycle or foot, surrounded by water, it has escaped the vast changes of time. When you step off of the Island Ferry Dock, you will be in a living Victorian village. There is no place more beautiful that Mackinac Island in the spring. The lilacs are in full bloom and the entire town is exploding with beautiful flowers! Please call for more detailed information.

Beginning Wednesday January 10th, the Senior Center will host a Crochet/Knitting Group that will meet @ 11 a.m. Bring your current project and any questions you may have. This group is for the experienced, those looking for some pointers or anyone wishing to learn. Some very knowledgeable and experienced folks will be there to help.

If you are interested in learning (or already know how) to play the game Mah Jongg, join a new group Wednesday, January 10th @ 1 p.m. Mah Jongg is a game that helps to keep your brain sharp and supercharged! It is a game of matching tiles that has long been popular with older people in Asian countries and has now gone global! In contrast to more solitary games like Sudoku and Solitaire, Mah Jongg is also a great way to socialize, as you can play the table game version with multiple players. The type of social connection that comes from playing games like Mah Jongg is thought by some neurologists to be one of the most important elements of keeping our brain healthy.

Thursday January 11th @ 10 a.m., Linda Falkenthal presents “How to Purchase Safely Online Using Your Credit Card.” This informative class explains safety measures for online purchasing.  The class will cover which web browsers help to keep you safe and how to determine whether or not a website is secure. If you have ever worried about buying items online, this is the class for you!

** The Alamosa Senior Citizens will be closed on Monday, January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will re-open Tuesday, January 16th @ 8 a.m.
