Alamosa Seniors: Senior center hosts groups, classes and fun trips

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Senior Citizens would like to thank all of those who donated items toward our Patio Sale and to those who came by and purchased them!! It was a wonderful success and we appreciate you all so very much!

Friday, August 4th @ 10 a.m., the National Federation of the Blind support group will meet at the center. According to their website:

“The mission of the National Federation of the Blind is to achieve widespread emotional acceptance and intellectual understanding that the real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight but the misconceptions and lack of information which exist. We do this by bringing blind & low vision people together to share successes, to support each other in times of failure, and to create imaginative solutions.”

Come and join us this Saturday, August 5th, as we journey to Creede for a tour of the Underground Mining Museum followed by attending Arsenic & Old Lace at the Creede Repertory Theater.  You may choose to participate in either one or both. Give us a call to reserve your place.

We are excited to offer a new class titled “How to Write Your Story” conducted by published author, Vinaya Wall. Vinaya’s memoir, Heart of the Watermelon, originated from an inner urge to free the stories within.  She began her writing journey in the early 80s with free write classes for women in transition as a way to navigate some of life’s tricky passages. Her classes expanded into journal and essay writing leading eventually to memoir. Vinaya is a storyteller who hails from the bayous of Louisiana offering an easy method of capturing and honing stories. Everyone has a story. You have a story and we want to hear it! Vinaya will help you to put it all together. Do it for yourself. Do it for your children. Join us each Monday @ 10 a.m. from August 7th – December 11th.

Tuesday, August 8th the Alamosa Sr. Citizens bus will head south to Santa Claran Casino! Call soon to reserve your place.
