MONTE VISTA — Alamosa wrestling filled their Tuesday night roster with a number of healthy scratches prior to their meeting with Monte Vista. Monte Vista would give up a class in the bout with their neighbor to the east as the Pirates wrestle in 2A while Alamosa is the top ranked team in 3A wrestling according to On the Mat. The Mean Moose took the away dual by a team score of 49-16.

Alamosa changed the wrestlers that would take the mat healthy scratching 6 different grapplers. The new roster was just as effective.

Alamosa’s Anthony Muniz and Nolan Johnson took 106 and 113 by major decision to open the night 8-0 in Alamosa’s favor. A pin from Brandon Reveles on Monte Vista’s Hunter Pacheco widened the gap setting the stage for Alamosa’s number one ranked 3A 126 pounder, Joe Chavez. Chavez racked up points for takedowns and near falls to earn a technical fall on opponent Monte Vista junior Nick Garcia.

Monte Vista would get on the board with the help of Tyler Vigil. Vigil is currently ranked fourth in the state at 132 pounds in 2A according to On the Mat. Vigil would score a quick reversal and take the bout by fall three minutes in. Monte Vista would collect more points at 145 pounds thanks to senior Zach Hindes. Hindes wasted no time scoring the takedown and finishing things at 37 seconds in the first period. Jason Ross capped scoring for the Pirates with a controlling major decision earmarked by takedowns and near falls.

Alamosa would finalize the meet with fall victories from juniors Brooks Anderson and Ezequiel Rangel and four forfeits to take the cross-class dual by a score of 49-16.

Both teams are scheduled to get back to action on Thursday February 7th. Alamosa is slated for a visit to Bayfield starting at 6 p.m. Monte Vista will also go on the road for a dual against Centauri starting at 7 p.m.
