Albert Leonard King

Albert Leonard King, 88, died of complications following a heart attack March 09, 2022, at Central Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born March 05, 1934, in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of Alverta Lee King Sr. and Eary Onward (Curles) King.

Known as Leonard, Leonard graduated from Maury High School, Class of ‘53. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Airforce from 1953-1957. While serving in the Air Force, mainly as an Airman 1st Class, he married his pen pal sweetheart Virginia Toogood on April 22, 1956, and they settled in Alamosa, Colorado, after being honorably discharged in 1957. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before Virginia’s passing in 2008. Leonard attended Adams State College and received his bachelor's degree in History in 1961. He went on to attain his master's from Adam State College in 1964 and furthered his education at the University of Missouri from 1968-1969. Leonard was actively involved in his community serving as coach to the high school baseball team, assistant football coach, driver’s education instructor, boys intramural director and scoreboard timekeeper most of his career. He retired after 34 years of teaching at Alamosa High School in 1996. He spent his time painting, playing dominos, reading, watching crime dramas and baseball and occasionally enjoying the great outdoors of the San Luis Valley. He was also heavily involved in The Church of Christ in Monte Vista, Colorado.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Alverta Lee King Jr. Surviving in addition to his son Terrence Alan King and his wife Marvine King, are granddaughters Candace (Nikki) King and Ashley (King) and husband Brandon CarMicheal and their daughter Piper CarMicheal. Also surviving him are sisters Linda Wunnenberg of Chesapeake, Virginia, Audrey Kraesig of Portsmouth, Virginia and brother Leslie King of Chesapeake, Virginia, Sister in law Marge and husband Emmett Seal of Pueblo, Colorado and many nephews and nieces.

A service of remembrance will be held (date to be determined) at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. Interment of ashes will be at the Alamosa Cemetery, Alamosa, Colorado. Those who wish to remember Leonard in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Children’s Saint Jude Hospital.
