Alvin “Uncle Al” Larry Romero

VALLEY — La Isla resident Alvin “Uncle Al” Larry Romero, 71, passed away January 10, 2019 at his home. Alvin was born on July 15, 1947 in Alamosa, the beloved son of Eusebio Romero and Frieda Padia Romero. Alvin served and was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Alvin was a friend to all, and was always the first to help anyone in need. He was an extraordinary, kind, compassionate and loving brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend who  enjoyed going hunting, fishing, camping, reading, cooking and was an avid Denver Bronco’s fan. He loved the time he was able to spend with his family and friends.

Survivors include his sisters Vicki Romero of Manassa; Elaine (Dale) Barella of Wellington; Sharon (Mike) Williams of Manassa; Bobbi Romero of Antonito; nieces and nephews Bianca Barella, Bjana (Mike) Froman, Brittany (Cassidy) Montoya, Megan (Ryan) Mohatt, Farron (Apollonia) Williams, Brandon (Katherine) Williams, Jonathon Gallegos, Jared (Tammy) Gallegos, Justin (Tammie) Gallegos, Joel (Linda) Gallegos, aunts and uncles Celestino (Lottie) Romero of Antonito; Celina Romero of Antonito; and Mena Romero of Antonito. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Eusebio and Frieda Romero, infant brother Leonard Romero, nephew Tristan Williams and one niece Ermidia Gonzalez and an aunt Mercy Atencio.

Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with full military honors. Internment will be held at a later date.
