Amarah's Corner ‘Dads like me’ shares story of Matthew

Hi! My name is Amarah. Kids are important to Jesus, and they’re important to me, too.

Teaching kids about God’s Word is so important, look what He says about it: “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds….Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up….” (Deuteronomy 11:18-19, NIV).

“Kids like me” are kids and adults of all ages whose parents are, or were, drug addicts, and alcoholics; kids who have suffered, or who are suffering, abuse and neglect on multiple levels; and kids who are victims of bullying.

Children Like You and Dads Like Me

Thank you for reading this article. It’s so hard for myself to write.

I am a single father of a 24-year old son, Matthew.

I got him when he was a couple of months old. His mother was addicted to cocaine. Matthew was addicted to it also.

For you girls that are addicts and that are going to have a baby, Please, Please, get help.

Listen, when Matthew was born, he got flown Flight for Life, along with his mother.

Now, can you imagine coming into the world with all of your intestines hanging out of your stomach? Now, can you imagine shaking like a leaf because you are addicted to cocaine?

The doctors told me that if he made it, it would be a miracle.

Matthew did make it through all of that and he has a long scar to remind him of it.

Now, this is the worst part. After he was born, his mom never had anything to do with him. He missed out on the love of a mother that is so important.

I raised him alone and those were the best years of my life. He did good in school, and I got Father of the Year a couple of times. We did pretty good.

Then, around 18 years of age, I lost him to society, and the drugs took over again.

Now, see girls, don’t let your child start out in life on drugs.“Get Help!”

I need your help and everybody’s help to get my son off of drugs and all of our children.

Matthew is in jail now and has been for a couple of months, this time.

I don’t understand why we waste our time and money in jails when we should spend it on rehabs and other means. Without the help of rehabs and education we will not get anywhere.

This is a life-long battle so let’s fight!

Let’s all ask GOD to help us and in the end we will all win!

Thank You,

Children Like You and Dads Like Me.

Dear Dad Like Me, I am so sorry you and your son are going through this. But, Dad Like Me, I want to share something with you.

I have a lot in common with you and your son Matthew. After I was born, my mother didn’t have much to do with me, either. And, it’s been almost six years now since I have even seen her or heard from her. It makes me feel like it’s my fault, even though I know it isn’t my fault.

My mother’s alcohol and drug use while she was pregnant with me damaged the spatial area of my brain which means that anything to do with numbers or comprehension of anything that involves numbers is a struggle for me to understand, if at all.

But there’s one thing I know and I want to share it with you, Dad Like Me. Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV): “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God has a plan for you and Matthew, Dad Like Me. Please, don’t let the devil make you lose sight of God’s plan for you. Matthew needs you to stay strong, too. Remember, Mark 11:24 (NIV), Jesus said, “…whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Wow! Father of the Year, not once, but twice! I don’t know any dad who received that award, ever! Matthew is blessed to have you!

Thank you, Dad Like Me, for writing to me and sharing, today. Please, stay in touch!

And, women/girls who are pregnant, and who are addicts, listen to Dad Like Me. PLEASE, call Dr. Barbara Troy, ASAP, at Alamosa Family Medical Center (719) 589-3658; Dr. Troy will help you and your baby!
