Amarah's Corner: My friend Erwin shares thoughts about ‘kids like me’

Hi! My name is Amarah. Kids are important to me, and they’re important to Jesus, too!

Teaching kids about God and His Words (the Bible) is so important God told parents in Deuteronomy 6:7 (NIV), “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

And, in Matthew 18:10 (KJV), Jesus said, “Take heed that ye despise not (hurt or be mean to) one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” Jesus said that! So, it’s really important for people to know that Jesus knows how they’re treating their children, whether good or bad.

“Kids like me” are kids and adults of all ages whose parents are, or were, drug addicts, and alcoholics; kids who have suffered, or who are suffering, abuse and neglect on multiple levels; and kids who are victims of bullying.

Today, my Friend, Erwin Young shares his observations, thoughts and feelings for kids like me of all ages. It’s very important to say that Erwin tried to help my mother (and I love Brother Erwin for that), just like he tries his best to help everybody, but she wasn’t ready for help:

Hi, Amarah. Thank you for sharing your heart in this column and thank you for giving adult “kids like me” the courage to see themselves and speak their hearts to the public. This gives all of us a clearer picture of the addiction monster.

I know the worst victims, tiny “kids like me” could not read or understand most of the messages but hopefully their parents, grandparents, or caregivers get a better view of what makes “kids like me.” It seems that addicted parents produce addicted children both physically (a new opioid addicted baby is born every 25 minutes) and environmentally (to grow up in a dysfunctional, addicted, abusive family could seem to be normal).

Some children leave the abusive home at a young age without life skills looking for love and security only to be caught in a new cycle of drugs, babies, broken promises, and broken hearts.

God sent his son Jesus to provide life more abundantly. The family is God’s building block for civilization. I want to ask all “kids like me” no matter your age to quit doing it your way and start doing it God’s way.

At the present time over 50 percent of our children are being born to single mothers. Let’s be patient and pick a spouse for life and produce a family with loving parents (mother & father) to love, protect, teach, encourage their children in the ways of the Lord.

If you have no dependable family, God provides the church to be your real family. Take up your needs with God (He knows our needs even before we ask him) and with at least one Christian friend you trust. There can be a friend closer than a brother.

Thank you, and Delany’s mother, for sharing her poem.

If each parent or spouse would acknowledge alcohol and drug related deaths in their loved one’s obituary, it might help others seek help before it is too late. Alcohol and hard drug abuse is 100 percent fatal without intervention. Another two of my local friends that were addicts passed away in the last 10 days at young ages.

Please consider printing your past articles into a single book that could be used in education and counseling classes. The book might also be sold online.

Thank you again and keep giving “hope for kids like me.”—Your friend, Erwin.

Thank you Brother Erwin, I love you, and thank you for reading my column. Write to me at Amarah’s “Kids Like Me” P.O. Box 354, Alamosa, CO 81101. If you know a kid like me, or parent, who is an addict/alcoholic, please tell him/her about “Amarah’s Corner, Kids Like Me” in the Valley Courier. Tell them to contact me, or you can contact me on their behalf. If you know a kid like me, or parent, who doesn’t have a Bible, but wants one, please, contact me. I’ll make sure he/she gets a Bible, “…and all the earth may know there is a God…” (1 Samuel 17:46, KJV).

Amarah’s “Kids Like Me” offers non-denominational World Bible School (WBS) Bible Correspondence Courses (free/postage paid) in English/Spanish to kids like me (ages 8-12), their parents, and even if you’re not a kid like me! Teens/adults take the WBS Master Series Courses so if you would like the WBS Courses, send your name/age/address and I’ll get you started ASAP! I hope to hear from you soon!

My goal is to help kids like me, and I want to help their parents, too. Until next time, remember, Jesus Loves You, and JESUS IS LORD!
