Amos Medina, 78

Longtime San Luis resident Amos Medina, 78, passed away peacefully November 30, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded by his loving family. Amos was welcomed into the world on March 10, 1940 in San Francisco, Colorado, the son of Manuel Medina and Encarnacion Mondragon Medina. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Beatrice Medina on April 8, 1967, they shared a long and loving union for 51 years.  Amos lived an extraordinary life. He dedicated many years to law enforcement, always making it his duty to uphold and enforce the law as well as keep the members of the community he served safe. Being in law enforcement for 31 years, 8 of those as the Sheriff for Costilla County was an amazing honor and achievement to him, he was very proud of being trusted with that confidence from the people who elected him for that position. On his free time Amos enjoyed going fishing, hunting, being in the outdoors, gardening, he was an avid Denver Broncos fan and he loved spending as much time as possible with his family, grandchildren and friends. Amos was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Beatrice Medina of San Francisco, CO; daughter Elizabeth Garcia of Colorado Springs, CO; sons Ronnie (Elizabeth) Medina of Sanford, CO; Allen (Audrey) Medina of Pueblo, CO; Norris (Sabrina) Medina of El Rito, CO; 14 grandchildren Moises, Fabian, Michael, Jesse, Illysa, Dominique, Samantha, Beatrice, Zebadiyah, Trinity, Kendra, Vanessa, Patricia, Alyssa,19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Cleo Maes of Pueblo, CO; Lorraine (Leroy) Medina of San Luis, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Amos was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Encarnacion Medina, son Joseph Medina, great-grandchild Jaidyn Nevaeh Medina, brothers Michael Medina, Ernesto Medina and one sister Eutima Maes.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Ft. Garland Community Center. Interment will follow at the San Francisco Cemetery.
