Andrew Joseph Espinoza, Sr.

Life-long valley resident, Andrew Joseph Espinoza, Sr. 43, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 6th, 2021 after a courageous battle with Covid-19. Born May 27, 1977 in Alamosa, Colo. to Luther Leroy Espinoza and Darlene Seneida (Gomez) Jimenez, Andy never met a stranger, and dedicated his life to helping the residents of the San Luis Valley.

Andy gave many years to working as an EMT-Intermediate on Alamosa EMS, and after that, offered another 16 years to law enforcement, including working under numerous sheriffs, and also as the Undersheriff of Costilla County.  During this time, Andy was also active on the Costilla County Ambulance Board, and the Tu Casa board, among many others.

Aside from serving his community, Andy enjoyed hunting for elk and mule deer in the mountains, fishing anywhere he could catch a fish, working on any of his various project cars, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his time branding cattle in Canjilon, NM with his friend Gerald Garcia.

Andrew is survived by his loving wife Sara Loggin, his children, Andrew Jr., Evander, Ryan, and step-daughter Shawnacy Martinez, his mother Darlene as well as his siblings, Jerry, Leroy (Matthew), Julia, and Krissy; his Godchildren, Jannelle Flores and Ricardo Sanchez, his Godmother Vera Vigil and his God-siblings, Joey Crystal Boese, Jeremy Vigil, Joey Belloc and Dustin Montoya, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Leroy Espinoza and his Godfather Jerry Vigil.

Cremation was selected and a Rosary will be held at 9:30 am on Friday May 14th at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Garland. A Memorial Mass will follow the Rosary at the church, beginning at 10 am. Inurnment will follow services in the Amalia Cemetery in Amalia, New Mexico. Immediately following inurnment, a BBQ dinner and celebration of life will be held at 659 7th and Pfeifer, in Fort Garland.
