Arson suspect apprehended

ALAMOSA — On Wednesday, September 20, at 4:24 p.m. a vigilant citizen recognized a subject that they believed was Nazzreth Michael DeLuna standing on the bridge on the east side of Alamosa. Being aware that DeLuna was wanted as a result of an incident on Monday, September 18, this citizen immediately contacted the Colorado State Patrol Communications Center reporting their suspicions.

After receiving the call, Communications Officers advised Alamosa Police Department officers of the report. Officers then responded to the bridge on Hwy 160 and recognized the subject as DeLuna. Officers contacted DeLuna, who was resistive, but was taken into custody without incident.

After taking DeLuna into custody, officers discovered that he was not armed as suspected, but he was wearing a ballistic vest (bullet proof vest) under his clothing.  DeLuna was taken into custody for the warrant for his arrest and is being held at the Alamosa County Jail on no bond.

DeLuna, 30, was apprehended on a warrant for his arrest on multiple charges including theft, 3rd degree assault, criminal attempt 1st degree murder, 1st degree burglary, 1st degree arson, reckless endangerment, crimes against an at-risk adult and criminal mischief. These related to an alleged arson on Bell Avenue Monday night.

“I would like to thank the citizens of Alamosa and those who provided information to our agency assisting in the apprehension of DeLuna,” said Alamosa Police Chief Duane Oakes. “With the assistance of our community members, we can continue to keep our community a safe place to live, visit, and enjoy.”
