Art celebration April 27 at Colorado Welcome Center

ALAMOSA - Visit Alamosa is thrilled to announce the unveiling of 13 murals at the Colorado Welcome Center on Saturday, April 27, followed by a Youth Art Show. The event will kick off at 1 p.m. at the Colorado Welcome Center, 610 State Ave.

Join Visit Alamosa in celebrating the unveiling of the “We Love Our National Park” Heart Mural, designed and painted by Casey McCoy. This permanent art installation is part of Visit Alamosa’s “We Love Our National Park” Program and will be a year-round declaration of the community’s appreciation of the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Park Superintendent Andrea Compton will be in attendance representing the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Directly following the We Love Our National Park Mural unveiling. Visit Alamosa will unveil the 12 murals created during the “Share the Love Community Mural Project” led by local artists Katie Dokson and Bianca Maestas.

Following the mural unveilings, guests are invited to the Youth Art Reception inside the Colorado Welcome Center. This special exhibition will feature artwork by young artists aged 5-20, showcasing their love for the Great Sand Dunes through collage, painting, photography, drawings, and mixed media. The exhibit will run from April 27 to May 5, providing visitors with an opportunity to appreciate the artwork and learn more about the park.

“We are excited to celebrate the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve through art and invite everyone to join us for this unique event,” said Elizabeth Sumner, Director of Destination Development of Visit Alamosa. “We are grateful to have this opportunity to share our love for the Great Sand Dunes, our Community, and the incredible local artists that made these projects possible.”
