ALAMOSA — SLV Pride is excited to announce that PrideFest will still take place this year, but instead of a day of celebration in Cole Park, it is celebrating the entire month of August! The SlV Pride committee has been working very hard to create events that will take place throughout the month that keeps social distancing and everyone’s health in mind. All events are free and open to everyone who would like to participate.

“This does not diminish our Pride, but rather reinforces the need to help and support those in our community,” the organizers stated. As a kickoff to SLV Pride Month, pride organizers invite everyone to enjoy the Pride Art Show, taking place for the month of August at Milagros, located at the corner of State and Main in Alamosa.

In addition, there will be a Pride Scavenger Hunt taking place from Aug. 17 through 23. This week-long hunt will take participants all over the San Luis Valley, following clues and learning more about our beautiful Valley. Those interested can register online at the SLV Pride website at slvpride. org. At 7 p.m. on Aug. 28, trans activist Jazmine James will be leading a Zoom discussion called “Trans 101 - Trans Ally Education.”

This is an educational exploration of the basics of being a trans ally, and how cisgendered folks can show intentional respect and support to those in our trans community. At 10 a.m. on Aug. 29, decorate your car and meet us at the east end of 6th Street for Reimagined Pride Parade, where we will drive a predetermined route and celebrate Pride from our vehicles!

Later that evening on Aug. 29, SLV Pride will be live streaming Kansas City’s DL SirQueen, who will be playing for a virtual dance party, as well as hosting awesome drag performances. During the dance party, Eda Bagel, a nationally known Female Impersonator that entertained the SLV community at Adams State during last year’s PrideFest weekend, will perform. Enjoy this show at no charge! For more information about any of the upcoming PrideFest events, please go to the SLV Pride website at slvpride.org.
