Arthur L. Mendoza

Longtime Alamosa resident Arthur L. Mendoza, 81, died March 18, 2023 at the Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, surrounded by his family.

Arthur was born in Ojo, Colorado on April 2, 1941 to Lewis and Ernestine Valdez Mendoza. He married the love of his life, Rose M. Trujillo in Antonito, Colorado on August 11, 1972.

Arthur worked for many years in Maintenance for the Housing Authority, and most recently for Ace Hardware.  He was a hard worker and good with his hands. Arthur loved to help others and was a giver.  He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed learning the game Cornhole, where he quickly beat everyone in his family while playing. He was an avid and loyal Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan, no matter how good or bad they were playing.  In his younger years, he enjoyed singing, dancing, and watching westerns with his wife Rose.  He also liked to take her driving and see the countryside.  Arthur had a good sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes and stories of his younger years.

He is survived by his children Brenda “Becky” (Emery) Lucero of Colorado Springs, CO, Nicholas (Brenda) Mondragon of Antonito, CO, Jesse (Robert) Mondragon of Antonito, CO, Patricia Gurule of Romeo, CO, Gerald (Rita) Lobato of Antonito, CO, Gabriel (Barbara) Lobato of Denver, CO, Donna Mendoza, Don (Andrea) Mendoza, and Mary (Carlos) Lopez, all of Alamosa, CO; Naomi Mendoza of Denver, CO, and Amanda Mendoza of Alamosa, CO; 29 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; his sister Alice Golden of California; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.

Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son David Floyd, his grandchildren Susie Gurule, Brian Mondragon, Alexandra Mondragon, and Derik Mendoza.

Cremation was chosen and a Recitation of the Rosary will be held 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa.  Interment of ashes will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
