Arthur T. Valdez, 83

Born December 24, 1934, Del Norte, Colorado to Jose Isaac and Aurelia Maria DuPont Valdez. Married to Angelina Archuleta Valdez for 49 1/2 years. One son, Alan Arthur and wife Denay Valdez. Two grandsons, Arthur John and Austin Alan of Parker, Colorado. Siblings: Jake (Bernie) Valdez of Lakewood, CO. Delma Abeyta of Del Norte, CO. Gilbert (Joanne) Valdez of Cheyenne, WY. Ernestine Garcia of Espanola, New Mexico. Ernest (Mary Alice) Valdez of Thornton, CO. Special Aunts Josie Martinez of Del Norte, CO and Rosie Lucero of Pueblo, CO, special uncle Jose Martinez of Del Norte, CO. Arthur is preceded by his parents and Brother, Tim Valdez.

After graduating from Adams State, he enlisted into The US Army where he served for 2 years in Korea. Arthur was a member of The Knights of Columbus since a young man.  He received his 4th Degree while living in St. Augustine FL and currently is a member of Rio Grande Assembly #2092 and Council #2688 in Del Norte, CO. Arthur was a youth counselor for Colorado State School for Boys and YMCA. Arthur was the Executive Director of Northern Colorado consortium dealing with the neighborhood youth core, which included working with the youth on employment and training through Cities and Schools. He was an active member with many churches in Denver, Florida and Del Norte.  After retiring he dedicated his life to being a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and being Papa Turtle. Arthur was a great Papa to his two boys.  He would take them to school and loved to watch them play basketball.  Arthur and AJ were the dynamic duo “Batman and Robin” for the past 15 years. He will be truly missed my family, friends and colleagues.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 9:00 AM at the Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Del Norte. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church located at 645 Pine Street, Del Norte, CO. 81132. Interment will be held at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery with full military honors. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
