ASU 2020 is moving forward

ALAMOSA– Adams State University is continuing the process of refining the institutions’ mission, vision and values. This process is part of the central concept behind the ASU 2020 Strategic Plan. The ASU Office of Academic Affairs has been working closely with ASU President, Dr. Cheryl Lovell and the Board of Trustees to move the university forward.

The Adams State University mission currently reads, “to educate, serve, and inspire our diverse populations in the pursuit of their lifelong dreams and ambitions.” The university has sought input as to the relevancy of this mission.

There are four central goals in the 2020 Strategic Plan. They are academic excellence, student success, personal and professional development, access and affordability, and community relations.

Furthermore ASU has outlined specific measures for each goal stated in the plan. For example, when it comes to academics, Adams State seeks to “Provide a responsive and professional education that fosters civic responsibility in a global culture.” When it comes to student success, ASU is looking to “Provide flexible avenues, and entry points from which to be engaged in and to progress toward their educational, personal, and career goals.

Adams State is also looking to invest in its’ faculty and staff through providing them opportunities to earn degrees and or certificates.

The University is also planning to address ways to “develop strategies and incentives to improve persistence and completion.” In addition, the plan is set to incorporate ways to better communicate resources and costs.

Finally, the university recognizes that working with the entire community of the San Luis Valley will be very important moving forward. This will include the expansion of community partnerships and the continued development of relationships with alumni and supporters.

The 2020 Strategic Plan is nearing completion, but it is certainly not the end of the preparations for the future that are happening on a daily basis at Adams State. The Board of Trustees will give final approval.
