ALAMOSA – The Adams State University Cloyde Snook Gallery Fe! Collective Experiences in Iron exhibit continues through April 6. An artists’ lecture will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the Art Building room 227 and a closing reception will follow.

The show, curated by Candy Nartonis and Anthony Guntren, includes Dana Chodzko, Chris Collins, Nathan Eyring, Liz Fritzsche, Guntren, Alicia Hess, D’Jean Jawrunner, Topaz Jones, Rian Kerrane, Joel Kiser, David Lobdell, Sarah Madigan, Nartonis, Kenneth Peshlakai, Dana Provence, Caitlyn and Kirk Whitten, Eric Wolf, and Chris Wolf.

Guntren received his master’s degree in art from Adams State in 2011. “Iron pour events provide an extremely productive and inspiring time to put all your energy into making art,” he said. “Furthermore, it is the type of art making that requires a community of individual artists from all walks of life to come together and help each other execute their creations. I believe this can be seen in the format of group exhibition dedicated to this process.” He and Nartonis will speak at the lecture.

Currently, Guntren teaches art classes, including sculpture, for Aims Community College and the Front Range Community College. He has works in public art programs throughout the U.S. He works in fabrication and builds public works with the sheet metal and welding related processes. “I enjoy casting, but the cost and equipment needs have led me to play with cast works, largely realizing the bulk of my casting efforts during iron pour events.”

The Fe! exhibition is dedicated to the late Joshua Hendren, Class of 2010, a long-time friend of Guntren. The two participated in many Tucumcari iron pours together. “He loved it, as many of us do, and was an ongoing presence in the ‘Iron Tribe’ circle as well as the Alamosa community.” One of the underlying themes of this show is the community it takes to complete these sculptures. “Josh was a very active part of these particular communities and will be greatly missed.” A dedication of the Joshua Hendren Memorial will take place immediately following the lecture.

A closing reception for the Hatfield Gallery exhibit, Local Traditions, Contemporary Visions, will also be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, April 6. The exhibition features select pieces from the Adams State Luther Bean Museum collection with work from artists featured in the La Monarca Symposium. The Cloyde Snook Gallery and Hatfield Gallery hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday.
