Avelina “Roy” Romero, 72

Capulin resident Avelina “Roy” Romero, 72, passed away April 1, 2017 at the San Luis Care Center with her loving family be her side. Avelina was born on November 1, 1944 in Capulin, Colorado, the beloved daughter of Jose De La Luz Romero and Amelia Apodaca Romero. She was a dedicated, kind and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and friend who enjoyed watching soap operas, traveling, going to gatherings and spending as much time as she could with her family and friends. Avelina loved eating candy and sweets and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughter Margie (Jaime) Alanis of Capulin, CO; sons Buddy (Lucinda) Romero of Antonito, CO; Timmy Salazar of Pueblo, CO; Albert Romero of Alamosa, CO; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sisters Belen (Benito) Medina of Alamosa, CO; Mary Rodriguez of Denver, CO; brother Louie Romero of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Avelina is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Amelia Romero, daughter Andreita Armstrong and two sons Don “Toby” Rodriguez, and Jimmy Armstrong.

Cremation was chosen. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery. The care of arrangements have been trusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
