ALAMOSA — The 1-day old baby that was reported taken earlier this week is safe and doing well, according to Donna Wehe, director of communications for San Luis Valley Hospital. “She is fine, healthy and being loved by everyone” at SLVH.

Wehe added that the baby was not born at the hospital despite what was spread by social media Tuesday morning. The security cameras have been checked and the mother, Cynthia Sandoval, did not step foot inside the hospital, Wehe added.

The Costilla County Department of Social Services is handling the legal side of caring for the infant while the hospital has been able to care for little Leah.

The security at the hospital nursery has been increased to comfort of all concerned and the families of any newborn babies, Wehe commented.
