Backpacker Bill to speak in Taos

TAOS, NM — Bill Kemsley (A.K.A. Backpacker Bill) will be the featured speaker for the Carson National Forest presentation on Thursday, September 13, to be held at the main Carson National Forest office at 208 Cruz Alta Rd in Taos, NM from 5 -6:30 p.m. His talk is entitled “Why I started Backpacker Magazine and Did I Succeed?”

To call Bill an enormously interesting individual and conservation hero is not overstating things.  His biography features great accomplishment and high adventure:  World War II Navy combat veteran, founder of “Backpacker Magazine,” co-founder of the American Hiking Society, and a recent inductee into the Appalachian Trail Hall of Fame. He is currently a freelance writer for the Taos News.

Always an avid hiker, at 90 years young he can still out hike anyone on the mountain.  Attendees can expect wonderful stories regarding all of Bill’s exploits.
