ALAMOSA — Alamosa Mayor Ty Coleman and about a dozen others took to the street for a “Honk and Wave” at noon at 639 Main Street in Alamosa, in front of SLV Brewing.

The cause was for the Community Foundation of the San Luis Valley, which was working to promote giving in the San Luis Valley to the San Luis Valley organizations that were participating in Colorado Gives Day.

Executive Director of the Community Foundation of San Luis Valley Mike Roque said his organization is the “regional champion” for Colorado Gives Day in San Luis Valley.

“There are 27 non-profits in the San Luis Valley that participate, and so we promote and drive money to those organizations on this day.”

Coleman said that the weather for this year’s Honk and Wave during Colorado Gives Day was improvement.

“We actually did it last year,” Coleman said. “The weather is a lot warmer this year.”

Roque said the temperature was 10-below zero a year ago.

“We still came out here and we applaud all of the people who came out from the different organizations to make this possible.”

Coleman said it was a team effort.

The Alamosa mayor said there were a lot of drivers who responded positively to them while they were waving at the vehicles.

“We had a lot of truck-trailers honk their horns really loud,” Coleman said. “And you could feel the vibration.

“It was exciting.”

When he was asked if he felt alive when he heard the loud horns and the vibrations, Coleman said, “Yes, I really did.”
