Bertha Mary Avila, 90, gained her angel wings and went home to be with the Lord on July 5, 2022. She was welcomed into the world on April 3, 1932 In Chama, Colorado, the beloved daughter of Rafael Lopez and Rebecca Vialpando Lopez. Bertha devoted her life to raising her children and caring for her family. She was truly talented in repairing things, making alterations and customizing just about anything your heart desired. With those talents, she worked as a seamstress for many years. She was the rock of her family, the one they would all turn to when they needed comfort, words of wisdom and anything in between. Bertha was selfless and will always be remembered for her warm, caring and loving heart as well as her compassionate nature. On her free time, she enjoyed going to bingo, doing puzzles, going fishing and playing board games. Bertha was an avid Denver Broncos fan. She cherished the time she spent with family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
She will live on through her children Steven (Lorraine) Avila of Alamosa, CO; Anthony (Latonda) Avila of Salida, CO; Alan (Rosemary) Avila of Sanford, CO; Mary Ann Rendon, Theresa Lucero (Chris Dunn) both of Sanford, CO; Janet (Tony) Romo of Alamosa, CO; 17 grandchildren,27 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, brothers Edward (Frances) Lopez of Denver, CO; Irving (Norma) Lopez of Arvada, CO; sisters Marvine Segura of Cerro, NM; Ida (Adolph) Aragon of Denver, CO; Elma Espinoza of North Glenn, CO. She is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents Rafael and Rebecca Lopez, great-granddaughter Kinzley Rose Lucero, sister Erlinda Lobato brother-in-law Toby Lobato, brothers Donald Lopez and Isaac Lopez.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 2:30 PM also at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Sanford Cemetery.
