Bicyclist injured in collision

CONEJOS COUNTY – A 23-year-old La Jara woman was seriously injured after her bicycle collided with a car about 6:30 p.m. Monday on Conejos County Road 18 south of Conejos County Road T. Hailey Coombs was transported by ambulance to the Conejos County Hospital after being ejected from the bike and traveling approximately 32 feet before landing on the roadway, according to a Colorado State Patrol report.

Richard Quintana, 64, of Manassa was driving the 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound on Road 18 when the accident occurred. According to the report, the Corolla started to travel into the northbound lane to pass three bicyclists when Coombs moved into the northbound lane. The vehicle skidded for more than 60 feet before colliding with the bicyclist with its left front.

After impact, the Toyota traveled an additional 40 feet to stop facing southbound in the northbound lane. The driver was released on scene. CSP said the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a contributing factor.
