BLM hosts NASA astronaut at Wild Rivers Visitor Center

TAOS, N.M. – The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office invites the public to attend a presentation by NASA astronaut Don Pettit at the Wild Rivers Visitor Center Amphitheater on Wednesday, June 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  He will give a presentation about his time in space, followed by a question and answer session.

Since the days of the Apollo missions, the Río Grande del Norte National Monument has been a training ground for NASA astronauts. Don Pettit, a veteran astronaut aboard both the NASA Space Shuttle and the International Space Station, previously trained alongside a geologist at the Monument.

The Wild Rivers Amphitheater is located at 1120 Cerro Rd., Cerro, NM. The amphitheater is an open air venue and visitors are reminded to dress appropriately for the local weather conditions and altitude.  In addition, the public should remember their outdoor essentials – water, snacks, appropriate footwear, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
