Bridget Gallegos

Colorado Springs resident Bridget Gallegos, 75, passed away peacefully in her home on April 21,2022.

A San Luis Valley native, Bridget was born in Alamosa to parents Matias and Rose Gallegos.

As an Adam’s State Alumni, Bridget found employment in northern New Mexico. As a result, she and her daughter wore the road thin between the family ranch (east of Sanford) and their home in Taos. She retired from the Taos Municipal Schools system to move back to Colorado and care for her parents in La Jara. She joked that she “flunked” retirement and couldn’t resist a position with the Alamosa Public Schools serving as the librarian at the Middle School where she retired (again) in 2007.

Her dedication to public education was tireless as was her commitment to her Catholic faith as she also served as Director of Religious education for St. Joseph’s Parish in Capulin, CO.

Bridget’s favorite hobbies included sewing, genealogy, and travel. Given a choice, she would look for every opportunity to combine those passions to include her number one joy – familia. Blessed with an extensive network of family and friends, Bridget delighted in attending hallmark events with her siblings, daughter, grandson, and any number of aunts/uncles, cousins, nephews/nieces, and Godchildren. Weary from traversing La Veta Pass, she ultimately moved to Colorado Springs to be closest to her “hito” (her grandson) and the youngest generation of children in the family. She spent her final years earning her wings - proving that her love of children never faded as she built lasting memories hosting tea parties, impromptu tutoring sessions, adventures, and shenanigans.

She is preceded in death by parents Matias and Rose Gallegos, sister Anita (Gallegos) Vigil, niece Ramona Vigil, as well as extended family members.

Bridget will live on through her daughter Rozx Gallegos, grandson Francesco Gallegos, brother Matthew Gallegos, sister, Rebecca Gallegos, nephews and nieces George (Abby) Vigil, Lee Anna (Greg) Vigil-Hageman, Monica (Steven) Vigil-Peralta, Benjamin (Kat) Gallegos-Pardo, Sara Gallegos, as well as a blessing of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and Godchildren.

A rosary and funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7th at 9:30/10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Manassa, CO with internment to follow at Los Cerritos cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you donate to your local library.
