Calf warming site burns

Alamosa firefighters respond to a fire on property owned by Warren Reed on the Alamosa/Conejos County line (County Road 15 South) about 9:15 a.m. on Monday. An old house was being used for a warming area for calves and had one calf inside at the time of the fire. The calf was lost in the fire. The structure was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and burned to the ground. Alamosa Fire Chief Don Chapman said the cause of the fire was a heating unit that had been placed in the structure that morning for a cold calf.
