DEL NORTE– The Rio Grande County Republican Central Committee hosted Colorado Republican Party Secretary, Devin Camacho Thursday evening in Del Norte at the Rio Grande County Annex. Camacho was in the San Luis Valley to give a brief update on current activities within the Colorado State Republican Party.

Camacho opened his remarks by expressing gratitude to the Rio Grande County Party for hosting him. He noted that the State GOP is currently working hard to reach out to minorities and suburban women on issues such as pro-business measures, and school choice as these demographics are likely to be crucial in the 2020 election.

Another key effort within the party is to emphasize the role that the oil and gas industry plays in the state economy as well as 2nd Amendment Rights.

Camacho emphasized that “Americans vote with their hearts.” He further noted that reaching out to undecided voters, and appealing to common interests such as the economy and fiscal conservatism is also going to be an essential component of the next election. Camacho also encouraged an “open-minded,” approach when it comes to engaging younger voters. He closed by offering his assistance to the Rio Grande County Party.

Alyssa Khamma of the Colorado Federation of College Republicans also gave a brief presentation to the group. She pointed out that the organization seeks to assist conservative-minded students in having a voice on their respective campuses. She further noted that the College Republicans are hoping to expand their efforts to more institutions in Southern Colorado.

The group is also preparing to launch initiatives to prepare for the upcoming election cycle. When asked why she is a conservative, Khamma responded by explaining that her parents helped to instill an appreciation for capitalism and the value of hard work in her as immigrants from Vietnam and Laos. She hopes to be able to encourage her fellow conservative students to not be afraid to stand for what they believe in.

The group that was assembled expressed their appreciation to both Camacho and Khamma for taking the time to travel and address them.
