Carl Archie Jack, 88

Lifelong valley resident Carl Archie Jack, 88, a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, departed this life on March 21, 2017 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Carl was born in Manassa, CO on June 1, 1928, the third child of James Rufus Jack and Leola King Jack.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Carl served honorably in the United States Air Force and was a proud veteran of the Korean War.  Upon returning from service to his country, he enjoyed a successful forty-two year career as an engineer with the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, earning many awards and recognition for his service.

Carl was a life long blood donor, having donated several gallons of blood to help others, especially babies, due to his blood type and ability to be a universal blood donor.  Even in his death, he chose to be an organ and tissue donor.

Carl proudly volunteered his time taking tickets at the local theatre for over a decade, where large numbers of local valley residents will fondly remember his gentle nature.

Carl is survived by his wife Doris, his daughters Debra (Ken) Macintyre, Pamela (Charles) Talley, son Larry Jack, son-in-law Richard Helmick, grandchildren Jason (Kimberly) and Jarrod Helmick, Jack (Rachel) and Nathan Macintyre, Brandon (Rebekah) Talley and Kara (Brandon) Pearson, and Hunter and Bailey Jack, as well as eight great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brother Johnny Jack and several nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eloise and Debra, brother Leon and his daughter, Brenda Helmick.

A private graveside service will be held in Alamosa at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to your local veterans organization.
