Monte Vista resident Cayetano Gutierrez, 90, passed away December 16, 2017 at the River Valley Inn Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Cayetano was born on July 27, 1927 in Chihuahua, Mexico, the son of Narciso Gutierrez and Felipa Miramontez Gutierrez. Cayetano was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed playing his trumpet, listening to music, playing baseball, going hunting, horseback riding and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his children Gloria (Sam) Gutierrez of Monte Vista, CO; Javier (Maria) Gutierrez of Las Vegas, NV; Aide (Ramon) Florez of Albuquerque, NM; Chayo (Francisco) Moreno of Johnson City, KS; Jose Cayetano (Alma) Gutierrez of Las Vegas, NV; Norma (Francisco) Miramontez of Evansville, WI; numerous grand children and great-grandchildren, sisters Ramona (Primitivo) Bustamonte and Dolores (Jose) Gutierrez-Perez both of Chihuahua, MX. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cayetano was preceded in death by his parents Narciso and Felipa Gutierrez, daughter Elsa Mascarenas, brothers Evaristo Gutierrez, Manuel Gutierrez, Narciso Gutierrez, Pedro Felix, Apolinar Gutierrez, two sisters Theresa  and Guadalupe.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 10:00 AM also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Monte Vista Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Monte Vista. The  care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista.
